Chemical Machining & Etching Services

Co-Cr Chemical Etching

Tecomet Inc. specializes in Co-Cr (cobalt-chromium) chemical etching of high precision, very thin metal foils.  We have earned our reputation by machining foils with excellent feature and tolerance control, ensuring that the components we manufacture meet the most demanding specifications. We can successfully etch production Co-Cr etched components that are 0.001 inches thick, or 10% of the thickness of a human hair. We can also etch Co-Cr as thick as 0.030 inches.

Capabilities

Co-Cr is a Cobalt-Chromium alloy and exhibits high wear, heat and corrosion resistance. It can be machined to tight tolerances. Tecomet Inc. has expertise in Cobalt-Chromium alloy etching to exact tolerances for the most demanding applications.

Our state-of-the-art cobalt-chromium chemical etching process is cost-effective and repeatable, producing even the most intricate parts reliably and to the tightest tolerances. Chemical etching allows components to be machined without affecting the remaining material or surface finish and the finished part has a clean cut with no heat-affected zones or burrs. Tecomet Inc.’s process can be used to create exacting half-etch and partial-etch areas that are impossible to produce with other manufacturing methods. Partial and half-etch processing can be used to create features with varying thicknesses, mark the surface of a component with a logo or part number and facilitate bending during fabrication and assembly. Chemical machining is also used to micro-etch the surface of completed components to improve bonding in later processes.

Applications

Co-Cr’s high wear and corrosion resistance properties make it an ideal material for use in medical devices such as implants and prosthetics.  These properties, in addition to its high heat property, make cobalt copper alloys an ideal material for shims and high impact, high wear components in aerospace and medical devices. Our cobalt-chromium components are DFARS and ITAR compliant for use in defense applications and are manufactured to ISO 9001:2015 standards.
